Cookie dough: Post-workout fuel?

Yep, that's the subway. I couldn't even make it home until I started digging into this.

Yep, that’s the subway. I couldn’t even make it home until I started digging into this.

Last night, I attended a summer kickoff workout at a nameless spin studio (ha, it’s so hard to guess when you look at the photo), which provided guests with amazing swag: a giant beach towel, inflatable beach ball, and tank top with an emblazoned logo; Olly Undeniable Beauty grapefruit vitamins; some fancy brand of shaving cream; Essie nail polish; photo-booth pics; and some other stuff…including PURE SUGARY DELICIOUSNESS from Cookie DO NYC (which I’ve never heard of, but they’re featured on Gilt City right now).

In what world do these brands mesh? Don’t get me wrong—I have zero willpower and live and die for treats like these, but I guess if there were going to be snacks at this sort of event, I would’ve envisioned healthy juices (oh wait, I did have some fancy watermelon juice) and carrots or something. Anyhow, I came to the conclusion that the studio figures that if we get fat (I essentially consumed in one spoonful the calorie loss of the previous sweat-filled 45 minutes BUT I FELT GREAT), we’ll frequent its classes more often. GENIUS.

Penthouse view!

Penthouse view!

Thank God for long weekends. They provide the perfect icebreaker for awkward elevator talk between you and your colleagues.

Unlike most of the country, I didn’t have any plans and decided to stay at home. It wasn’t a bad weekend, and I learned a few things…

Eating in the Bay Area: Part 1

Drool.

Drool.

Hooray, I’m visiting my sister in California! She’s been living out here for nearly two years—first in San Francisco (in the calf-hating neighborhood of Nob Hill) and now in South Bay. I last visited her in SF shortly after she moved out there, but this is the first time I’m experiencing her life out here in the ‘burbs. (She lives in a house!)

As soon as I landed, I ate everything…

Lima, Peru: I ate yummy stuff

These things were freakin' everywhere

These things were freakin’ everywhere

So I went to Peru last week for about five full days. It was an easy trip since there are direct flights to Lima out of JFK (about eight hours), plus it’s in the same time zone.

In Lima (no, we didn’t go to Machu Picchu), I got to do one of my favorite things: eat cheap, delicious stuff.

The Meatball Shop: Where fatties go to binge

The Meatball Shop

The Meatball Shop

I ingested this entire ice-cream sandwich: espresso ice cream in a chocolate-chip cookie.

After I ate the Everything but the Kitchen Sink Salad with chicken meatballs in pesto with a fried egg.

Post-munching on my dining companions’ polenta, broccoli rabe, and risotto.

While drinking some sort of warm cider drink.

After downing two gin and tonics a few doors down at Fiddlesticks because we were told our wait was 75 minutes (it was more like 30) and I can’t bear to waste any alcohol.

Oh, food. Why must you torture me so!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NICOLE!

Testing. Testing. Anyone out there?

It’s been a long time, friends. (And by “friends,” I mean, MAYBE Nicole.) Anyhow, why not delve back into this blog by going back to its roots: What exactly am I watching?

(Also, I spent the entire late afternoon and evening on my couch, so writing about it makes it feel slightly productive.)
