All together now: Poor Andy!

European Pressphoto Agency

Well, Roger Federer won his 17th Grand Slam, regained the No. 1 ranking (equalling Pete Sampras’ record of 286 weeks as the top-ranked player), Great Britain is still champion-less after 76 years, blah blah blah.  Oh man.  The stars were aligning for Andy Murray, and he started off great (and won his first set in a Grand Slam final!) but the ghosts of Centre Court shined their light on Fed again.

New York recently did a lengthy profile on Roger, which struck me as kind of odd since he hasn’t been the top-ranked player (until now, I guess) nor had won a major tournament in awhile.  According to the article:

“I just don’t like the ring of it when I’m being introduced on Centre Court saying, ‘and this is the No. 2 in the world,’ ” Federer said [after losing his No. 1 ranking to Nadal in 2008]. “It just sounds wrong. Either I’m No. 1 or I’m a Grand Slam champion, but I’m not No. 2.”

Oh well.  That Roger.  He’s always honest.

But Andy played great.  He should be very proud of how he played in his first Wimbledon final.  But man, watching him and his mom cry at the trophy presentation… yikes.  There’s always next year!

I like this picture since there is a couple randomly kissing amongst all the viewers who are on the edge of their seats.

PS – I just moved… and after a week of living like a caveman… I FINALLY HAVE TV AND INTERNET AGAIN!
